“Upsets” and “Too-close-to-call” for WTA world No.1 are still ongoing
The Belarusian player, Victoria Azarenka won her first Grand Slam title at Australian Open, clinching the world WTA top ranking for the first time.
Azarenka won her first Grand Slam title while clinching the top ranking for the first time in her career
Her country gained their independence on 1991 from former Soviet Union, and adjacent to Russia, Ukraine, and Poland. Ice hockey is one of the popular sports there.
The 22-year-old player changed to professional on 2003, starting to play at WTA tournament main draw since 2005. She moved up her WTA ranking into 100 in 2006, advancing to within 30 in 2007, within 20 in 2008, and within 10 in 2009. Great improvement.
She has played at the Toray Pan Pacific Open continuously since 2009; quarter-finalist in 2009, and semi-finalist in 2010 (lost against C. Wozniacki) and 2011(lost against A. Radwanska). As you see, she has an outstanding potentiality.
The Australian Open finalist M. Sharapova has participating in our tournament for years, with 2 titles in 2005 and 2009.
You may see the Australian Open “final” in Tokyo this year. How you guess.
Still, “Upsets” and “Too-close-to-call” for WTA world No.1 are ongoing.
